1984 Volleyball Team
Inducted in 2014
The 1984 Volleyball Team made school history by capturing the school’s first state title. The team was made up of 10 players; five seniors and five juniors. Some of the highlights were:
- Season record of 24-1; Tri-Valley Conference Champions
- Champions in the Chisago Lakes Invitational
- During the regular season, won all games in three with many of them not allowing the other team to score one point. There were six games with a score of 15-0, including the Region 4A final game against Cosmos.
- District 15A Champions by defeating Randolph, St. Anthony and St. Bernard’s
- Defeated Gaylord and Cosmos in the Region 4A tournament to advance to the state tournament
- In the state tournament played Tracy Milroy, Belgrade and defeated Greenway in the championship match
- One of the messages Coach Dickhudt wrote down before the third state game was, “The journey’s end. You did it girls. This is something you’ll never forget. You are all special people, keep up the hard work and maintain your vision.”
This volleyball season will never be forgotten because everyone was filled with dedication, desire, and determination.
1987 Volleyball Team
1987 Volleyball Team
1987 Volleyball Team, Inducted in 2017
The 1987 volleyball team captured the schools second state tournament championship. The team was made up of 11 players, three seniors, five juniors and three sophomores. Some of the highlights were:
- Season record of 32-1
- Tri-Valley Conference Champions
- Champions in the St. Anthony Invitational
- Champions in the Willmar Invitational
- Runner-up in the Duluth East Invitational
- District 15A Champions by defeating Archbishop Brady, St. Croix Lutheran and St. Bernard’s
- Defeated Gaylord in semi-finals of Region 4A with a tough final against Cosmos defeating them in five games with a fifth game score of 16-14 to advance to the state tournament.
The top eight teams then came together to fight for the state championship. There was no stopping the Beacons, who dominated the floor throughout the entire tournament. Without losing even one match, the Beacons easily took the first-place title. They defeated Cook, Stewartville, and Win-E-Mac.
The Beacons had to practice and play every game of the 1987 season on the road because the gym floor was being replaced due to water damage. There was never a homecoming game, parent’s night or even a senior night. The Beacons got to practice on the floor two days prior to the state tournament. When entering the Met Center, the players looked up at the high ceilings and the surroundings and said to each other, “Just another gym,” and they went to work and won the state championship.
