at Concordia Academy

Junior year is a pivotal one for your teen. There are many significant steps in junior year, from taking the ACT to jumping into more challenging courses. It’s a lot, but we want you to know Concordia is committed to helping your teen prepare for what lies ahead.

Despite all the hard work that junior year entails, it’s a fun, enjoyable, and memorable year. If your student is transferring to Concordia as a junior, we are committed to walking each step with them, so they feel supported by their teachers and fellow students and ready for when their senior year arrives. About Concordia’s Junior Experience

Academic Tracks

Juniors will have an all-encompassing academic track at Concordia Academy. International travel opportunities are available while studying Spanish. Juniors will also be prepared to take the ACT. The fundamental courses they’ll take are:

  • American History
  • Pre-Calculus
  • American Literature
  • Scripture and Life III
  • Chemistry
  • Intermediate Art
  • Spanish III
  • Photojournalism
  • ENG 120:  College Writing
Co-curricular and extracurriculars

Many opportunities are built into the curriculum to encourage your junior’s exploration of the arts. Before graduating, every student takes at least two years of fine arts classes. Regardless of skill level, students are able to experience the arts in a nurturing and encouraging community. Instruction is built into the school day, placed alongside core classes such as science and literature to facilitate balanced brain development. Clubs and other extracurricular activities allow students to explore their passions, pursue academic excellence, and develop new skills.

Athletics

In athletics, we foster excellence, knowing it honors God. Leadership opportunities, discipline, teamwork, and practice have led to state tournament championship games. CA offers ample and robust athletic opportunities, including basketball, track, football, and volleyball.

College and Career Prep:

Junior Year

Junior year and college prep go hand-in-hand — standardized tests, college counseling, and college classes are all part of the 11th grade experience. Juniors visit colleges with a list of questions to ask the colleges they want to attend and experience College Boot Camp in October. It’s not uncommon that 95% of our graduates go to college or military service.

Concordia offers Guidance and Academic Services along with our Resource Room to ensure students receive the support and resources they need to be prepared for their futures. Whatever your junior’s passions are, we help them develop the abilities and skills to pursue what God has called them to do.

Concordia Cohorts

Throughout the school year, juniors will engage in Concordia Cohorts, which include STEM, Arts, and Humanities. Your teen will commit to a summer internship, have shadow experience, and work independently on projects while exploring ideas for their senior capstone project.

College on Campus

Juniors have the opportunity to choose from 25 college-credit courses, which is more than any other high school in the area. Students who take our college classes receive credits from both Concordia Academy and Concordia University, St. Paul. Juniors will receive a college transcript from Concordia University upon completing a college class. This transcript can be transferred to any university that accepts college transfer credits.

ICE Lab projects have unlimited potential, deepening students’ interests in music technology, computer hardware construction, and manufacturing design.

I was able to take college classes as a junior right here at CA, and it was amazing because it introduced me to the rigorous coursework and high expectations of college. This showed me what to expect as a future college student while still allowing me to have the high school experience with my friends!

At Concordia, Our Spiritual Life Sets Us Apart

As a parent, you want your teen to be able to get involved, feel known in their learning community, and cultivate deep friendships and rich memories! Junior year is a significant time that could impact them for life — because of this, we foster opportunities for your teen to grow in their faith through our chapel services,  Bible studies,  Family Life Groups, and our three-day Vision4Life program. Vision4Life gives juniors a unique opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Junior athletes can also grow in their leadership by becoming a mentor through our Beacon Buddies athletic program for grades 1 – 4. Christ informs and transforms everything that happens in our campus classrooms, hallways, athletic fields, and beyond.
