Theatre

Whether students want to belt out showtunes, make audiences laugh and cry, create breathtaking sets, learn to use state-of-the-art theatrical lighting, or transform the stage between scenes, there’s a place for them in Concordia Academy’s theatre program.

The centerpieces of the program are major productions in November (typically a play) and March (typically a musical). These shows are presented in CA’s auditorium, which features seating for 375, a large proscenium stage, and a state-of-the-art theatrical lighting system.

Recent productions have included Elf The Musical, Annie, Little Women, Shrek The Musical, Twelfth Night, The Sound of Music, Working, Radium Girls, Oklahoma, Bye Bye Birdie, Charlotte’s Web, Into the Woods, and Seussical. Each year’s theatrical productions are designed to offer variety in themes, genres, styles, cast sizes, and settings. However, the focus is always on using God-given talents to glorify the Lord through excellence!

That excellence is regularly rewarded by Spotlight Education, a program of the Hennepin Theatre Trust. Throughout the year, skilled evaluators from Spotlight Education adjudicate musical theatre productions at schools throughout Minnesota and provide constructive feedback to participating students. CA participates in this program annually and often are invited to participate in the Spotlight Showcase at the State Theater in June.
