Chapel Video Archive

A couple of weeks before my second year as school chaplain, I was talking with Principal Randy Lowe. I told him I was struggling with what to share for the opening chapel. He said, “Have fun with it, spice things up.”

From this point forward, CA’s opening and closing chapels would never be the same. Unfortunately it wasn’t until a few years later that we decided to film them.

I remember our first recorded chapel vividly. I was dangling from the auditorium catwalk, 30 feet in the air, in a homemade harness made by Dave Boll. It was not fun. I was terrified. But it did spice things up. This Mission Impossible chapel was a continuation of what is now over 30 years of “spiced up” opening and closing chapels.

“Joy is the serious business of heaven,” wrote C.S. Lewis. So too, is it the serious business of CA.

When students see their teachers in goofy costumes, acting ridiculous, and obviously having fun—all for the sake of a Gospel proclamation—it says something about those teachers and the Gospel itself.

The Gospel breathes life! It frees us to live life to the full, and a full life is filled with laughter, fun, and joy. I hope you enjoy this archive of CA’s opening and closing chapels.

Rev. Dr. Timothy Berner
Executive Director

PS. I’d like to give a special shout-out to Dave Boll, our lead cameraman and video editor for many years. He spent countless long nights making sure these videos were finished on time. I’d also like to thank Jacob Berner,—yes my son—who took the time to digitize these old videos as well as create this webpage and promotional video. He’s come a long way from the kid fighting in our 2013 Duck Dynasty chapel.

Listed here is every recorded CA opening and closing chapel since 1996. Using the tabs below, you can sort the videos chronologically or by our staff’s favorite videos done throughout the years.

Underneath each individual video is a “plus” symbol which can be used to see more details about the specific video. In these sections you will find a synopsis, cast list, fun facts, and behind-the-scenes stories about the chapel.
