Whether students want to belt out showtunes, make audiences laugh and cry, create breathtaking sets, learn to use state-of-the-art theatrical lighting, or transform the stage between scenes, there’s a place for them in Concordia Academy’s theatre program.
The centerpieces of the program are major productions in November (typically a play) and March (typically a musical). These shows are presented in CA’s auditorium, which features seating for 400, a large proscenium stage, and a newly-installed state-of-the-art theatrical lighting system.
Recent productions have included Oklahoma, Bye Bye Birdie, Almost Maine, James and the Giant Peach, Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, Godspell, Diary of Anne Frank, The Wiz, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Each year’s theatrical productions are designed to offer variety in themes, genres, styles, cast sizes, and settings. However, the focus in always on using God-given talents to glorify the Lord through excellence!
That excellence is regularly rewarded by Spotlight Education, a program of Hennepin Theatre Trust. Throughout the year, skilled evaluators from Spotlight Education adjudicate musical theatre productions at schools throughout Minnesota and provide constructive feedback to participating students. CA participates in this program annually.
