Concordia Academy Parents
Volunteer at the Xcel Energy Center & Metrodome
to raise funds for tuition and
other activities at CA!
Signing up for events: The director will send the
calendar once a month by email, and you reply as soon as possible with the dates
you'd like to work. It is generally those that request hours first will be
scheduled hours first, so sign up early. If you do not have access to
email/internet, you may head to the library to obtain a free email address or
partner with another volunteer who does have email. Unfortunately, I do not
have the time it would require to field phone calls from everybody, however, I
generally answer emails within 24 hours. Once you sign up for an event, plan on
working it, unless you hear differently from me. Reminder emails are usually
sent 5-7 days prior to the event.
Report times: The first time listed on the schedule is for
managers while the second time listed is for all others. We need to be prompt!
Uniform: Black pants, closed toe/heel,
comfortable shoes, and a white t-shirt/tank top qre required No dangly jewelry,
etc. Each Venue will provide you a shirt, hat, and apron to wear during the
event.
Payment: Each person will be paid $50 per concert or non-Wild game at the Xcel, $60 per Twins, Vikings, Gopher, or Wild game or daytime weekday event at the Xcel (less a small deduction because we do not carry our own liability insurance). Shifts longer than 8 hours at the Xcel are paid $8.50/hour. Payments are usually made to CA within 3-6 weeks of working. When the director am notified of payments, she will notify you. Payments can only be made to CA for CA tuition and other activities. No cash can be given to any volunteer as a result of volunteering. $10 per person will be deducted from the first event worked each year and put in a general group fund.
Age: Workers at the Metrodome must be
16 and older. We need at least twice as many adults as students, as students
are not allowed to serve beer or work registers. All workers at the Xcel Center
must be 18 years or older.
Training: General Training/Orientation is
required to work at either venue. If you were trained at the Metrodome or Xcel
in 2004 or 2005, you need not attend training again. The Metrodome will let you
work before attending training if you are registered for an upcoming training
session. All volunteers at the Xcel must attend training prior to working.
Canceling
events: If you find
you are unable to work an event you've requested, please inform the director at
least 4 days in advance. If you are unable to provide such notice (sickness,
etc), you will be asked to find a suitable replacement and to notify the
director. If you do not do this the $20 (Metrodome) or $25 (Xcel) deduction to
the group will be passed to you. In some cases, more groups are hired than are
needed and unfortunately, we are given only a 2-3 day notice.
Parking: There are many lots near the Dome
that are reasonable ($3-5) for Twins games, but are much more expensive for
Vikings games ($14-30). There are some free spots near the Xcel Center and
reasonable ramps/lots. You may also purchase $4 parking stickers before events
for the Victory parking ramp just a few blocks away. We try to carpool as much
as possible. The reminder emails have the name and email of everybody working a
certain event, so we use those to organize driving. For more parking info in
Saint Paul, go to www.saintpaulparkinq.com (downtown maps) or
