DEPARTMENT PURPOSE
The purpose of Concordia Academy religion classes is to...
- Actively engage students with the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- Create and maintain relationships that allow for open and honest communication (1 Thessalonians 2:8)
- Encourage an ever increasing transformation into the likeness of Christ (Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 3:18).

Scripture and Life I. (Grade 9) Scripture and Life I (grade 9) introduces students to thoughtful reflection and discussion on Scripture and Life. Beginning with an overview of the whole of scripture, this course focuses on Old Testament themes as well as an introduction to Christian apologetics. (One year, 1 credit.)
Scripture and Life II. (Grade 10) Scripture and Life II emphasizes the New Testament. In this course, students will study the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as presented in the Gospels. Finally along with an overview of Acts selected Epistles will be studies. (One year, 1 credit.)
Scripture and Life III. (Grade 11) During the first semester,students taking Scripture and Life III will experience a thorough study of the3 Gospel of John and Revelation. During the second semester, the focus of this course shifts to an in-depth study of Christian Denominations, World Religion, and Cults. (One year, 1 credit.)
Scripture and Life IV. (Grade 12) While emphasizing a strong Biblical connection, Scripture and Life IV seeks to apply Christian teaching to everyday life. Students in this course can expect to develop an understanding of a healthy prayer life and what it means to have a Christian worldview. Furhter, students will study and apply the challenges of the Beatitudes and finally develop a Biblical understanding of Marriage and Family Life. (One year, 1 credit.)
Readings in Theology. (Grades 11 and 12) This online course is geared for students who wish to go deeper in their study of theology by engaging them in the thoughts and insights of Christian thinkers. Through critical reading, writing, and online discussion, students will examine and evaluate the intellectual and spiritual challenges presented by a variety of recognized authors of the 20th century. Included in the course will be selected writings by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, C.S. Lewis and Charles Colson. (One quarter, .5credit)
