Post-Secondary
Enrollment Option

PSEO allows eligible Minnesota high school juniors and seniors to take post-secondary courses (college, university, or vocational education) at no additional cost to the student while the student continues to be enrolled at his/her high school. The intent of the program is to allow able students to earn college credits and to take advanced classes not offered in their local high schools. The State of Minnesota reimburses the post-secondary institution on a per credit hour basis.

CA juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in PSEO, but must complete all courses required for graduation (outlined below) through Concordia Academy. Weighted grades will be awarded only to Concordia Academy Advanced Placement, Honors courses, or college courses taught on campus by CA faculty. All PSEO elective courses taken by a student off campus, through the Internet, or through visiting faculty from Concordia University will not receive weighted credit.

Present policy requires that every student attending Concordia Academy acquire twenty-four (24) units to receive a Concordia Academy diploma.

English: 4 credits
Fine Arts: 2 credits
Phys Ed: 1.5 credits
Electives: 4.5 credits
Bible: 4 credits
Math: 2 credits
Health: .5 credits
Social Studies: 3 credits
Science: 2 credits
Keyboarding: .5 credits

All students must carry a minimum of six (6) credits per year, and each student must take the following non-elective Concordia Academy Courses on campus to satisfy graduation requirements:

  • Bible: One credits for each year of attendance.
  • English: I, II, and 1.5 credits of American Literature and English Literature, total of 3.5 credits on campus
  • Government: .5 credit
  • American History: 1 credit
  • World History (either Ancient or Modern): 1 credit

All other graduation requirements may be satisfied by taking courses on campus, PSEO, Internet, or units earned at another accredited secondary school(s).

The amount of tuition Concordia Academy will charge a family whose child is participating in the PSEO program may be adjusted.

Any elective PSEO courses, which a student may take to complete the 24 units required for graduation, will be assessed an administrative fee which may be less than the tuition charged if the course(s) was taken on campus. In determining the administrative fee, the PSEO elective courses taken for high school credit and the amount of tuition provided by the State to reimburse the PSEO institution will be taken into consideration. The administrative fee may vary depending upon the number of elective PSEO courses and credits the student is taking and using to meet the graduation requirements.

Parents need to note that Concordia Academy receives no money from the State when a student is taking an elective PSEO course off campus.

All sophomores and juniors receive detailed information regarding PSEO in February when students begin course selection for 2005-2006. General questions regarding the PSEO program, registration, and courses should be directed to DeVon Lark, Guidance Counselor (651-484-8429 ext. 128). Kim Steffel, Finance Manager (ext. 114), can assist with any questions about tuition reductions and PSEO.
